Laser surgery of varicose veins

Laser surgery of extended veins is a modern method in the treatment. The laser is a focused beam of light that, with the help of a thermal effect, allows the walls of the veins to be glued together and the formation of the scar resulting in the closure of the vein. After a year, closed veins usually disappear (it absorbs the body, because it does not feed). For laser surgery it is not necessary to use a needle or make cuts on the skin. The intervention is most often performed in ambulatory conditions in local anesthesia. It takes about 45 minutes. The length of hospital treatment is maximum 1 day.

Benefits of laser vein surgery:

• The intervention lasts briefly (about 45 minutes).

• It is significantly faster recovery compared to conventional surgical procedure.

• Intervention is almost painless.

• The scars that occur are minimal.

• Hematoms (blood vessels) are not produced after the intervention.

• It is faster to return to everyday activities.

• The aesthetic and functional effect is better.

INDICATIONS / WHY IT IS DONE?

• Used to treat extended veins of smaller dimensions and spider nevus. Spider nevus are however deformed by blood vessels that are most commonly found on the skin of the face and body.

• It can also be used in the treatment of enlarged veins of legs, usually after classical surgery, radiofrequency endovenous treatment or sclerotherapy.

HOW IT IS PERFORMED?

• The intervention is performed most often in ambulatory conditions in local anesthesia (you will be conscious during intervention).

• During a laser vein operation, a thin laser probe is inserted into an enlarged superficial vein under ultrasound control. The probe is used to direct the laser beam that heats the inside of the wall of the vein, leading to its collapse-the walling and closing of the vein.

• It often takes more than one intervention to achieve the desired effect. The next intervention in agreement with the doctor is usually performed in 6-12 weeks.

POTENTIAL RISKS

• Change in skin color or skin redness.

• Pain, feeling of warmth or burning (rarely).

• Blood clots formation (rarely).
