Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a graphic record of electrical activity of the heart. Electrocardiography is a fast, painless and non-invasive method to record electrical activity of the heart, and the device that makes the graphic record is called an electrocardiograph. This method can detect various heart disease. Recording takes several minutes and the result is available immediately.

INDICATIONS / WHY IT IS DONE?

  • In order to detect cardiac rhythm disorders and exercise (arrhythmia), the presence of a pacemaker.
  • For the purpose of setting a diagnosis of a heart attack or revealing signs of a previous heart attack.
  • It is a routine procedure for systematic examinations or for a review of general practitioners.

HOW IT IS PERFORMED?

  • ECG can be recorded in a doctor’s office, hospital, or on a home visit.

You will lie on the bed during the shooting. A healthcare worker will put electrodes on your chest, legs and arms. Electrodes register the electrical activity of the heart, which is recorded in the form of a wave on the monitor or on ECG paper. While shooting, do not move or talk, because movements can affect the quality and accuracy of the ECG record.

POTENTIAL RISKS

  • You may experience mild discomfort when placing and removing electrodes from the chest. Very rarely at the place where the electrodes were placed, you can have a reaction in the form of redness.
  • There is no risk of electric shock during the recording of the ECG. Electrodes placed on the chest do not emit electricity, but merely register the electrical activity of the heart.

PREPARATION

  • Preparation for this review is not required.
  • You need to tell your doctor all the medicines you take in regular therapy, because some medicines can affect the result of this recording.

AFTER ECG

You can return to doing your regular daily activities.
