Breast ultrasound

Ultrasound examination of breast and armpit regions is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure which, with the help of ultrasonic waves, provides data on the structure of the breast and structures in the armpit. The review takes about 30 minutes.

• In order to distinguish benign from malignant-malignant tumors, solid from cystic changes …

• For the purpose of early detection (screening) of malignant tumor of the breast (with mammography and magnetic resonance).

• This review can also be done for men in order to determine the origin of breast changes or to monitor the characteristics of a change)

Breast ultrasound is used as the first diagnostic procedure in the early diagnosis of breast cancer if:

1. You have less than 40 years (it is recommended that every woman after 25 years of age is doing this review once a year).

2. It is not recommended or considered harmful to be exposed to mammography (pregnant women).

HOW IT IS PERFORMED?

The patient is on the bed for examination, after which the doctor puts a special gel on the surface of the ultrasound probe. The probe is a small plastic device that sends and receives ultrasonic waves and is placed on the breast of the patient and then into the armpit. Gel has the role of improving the conductivity of ultrasonic waves and eliminating air between the skin and the probe.

POTENTIAL RISKS

Ultrasound examination of the breast is a completely harmless, effective and painless method and does not carry any risk.

It is recommended that the examination is performed in the period from 7 to 10 days of the menstrual cycle (7th to 10th day from the first day of menstrual bleeding).

AFTER THE BREAST ULTRASOUND

After the review, you can return to your usual daily activities.
